Data Security

Introduction

Hard drives fail - this is a fact of life!  With the drastic increase in capacity and decrease in costs, disks have become less robust and more vulnerable to dust, shock and other hazards. Disks can fail completely or become corrupted resulting in the loss of some, or all, of the contents.  So, what can you do to protect your software, data and documents?

There are three main options:

w

BACKUP SOFTWARE - using the facilities that are already available to Windows users, including Microsoft Backup

w

EXTERNAL DRIVES - using extra storage devices such as an external hard drive or memory stick

w

RAID - a method of protecting your system, programs and, most importantly, data, using two disks, each being a mirror image of the other.

TG SYSTEMS CAN HELP YOU WITH ALL OF THESE!

EXTERNAL STORAGE DRIVES

There are two main uses for external ( or removable ) drives - for holding backup copies and for extra storage without the expense of adding a drive inside your PC.  The virtue of these drives is that they can be stored away from the computer when not in use.  If your PC is stolen or damaged by such as fire or water, your backup drive will safe!  Read on .....................

'RAID'

'RAID' is a method of constantly maintaining a mirror image of your main drive onto another drive - if either fails you can simply carry on until you're able to replace the faulty drive, with no loss of valuable data, software or time!  All about RAID ....................
